Raising Awareness of Mental Health
84 sculptures have been added to ITV’s buildings on the Southbank; each one represents a real life lost to suicide each week.
We’ve seen some wonderful work recently around mental health in the LGBT community, as well as ITV’s fantastic work profiling Project 84; the number of men who commit suicide in the UK each week. At InterMediaUK we’re planning an LGBT Mental Health event later on this year and really hope this will be something of both benefit and interest to our members.
Statistically, as a 39 year-old gay man, the greatest threat to my life at the moment is myself and for the past two years, I’ve been campaigning to improve early intervention to services and prevention methods as well as working with the wonderful people at Minds at Work to end the stigma surrounding Mental Health in the Workplace. As part of this, I’ve been talking about my own mental health and what it’s like living alongside family members who also both suffer from mental health conditions. We’ll be giving you more information about our event in future newsletters so watch this space.
As part of my campaigning, I’ll be running the 2018 London Marathon for Mental Health Charity Mind. More details at my Virgin Money sponsorship page.
