Media milestone as Sky makes Top 100 Employers list for LGBT inclusion
In January, Sky was announced as the most LGBT-inclusive media company in the UK, having been placed 29th on the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index. The WEI is the annual benchmarking tool for employers to measure LGBT inclusion in the workplace, with over 400 from the public and private sectors making submissions. Sky’s placement was particularly significant, as it was the only media company to make the top 100.
This was achieved with a business-wide focus on LGBT inclusion with various components, including: a structured LGBT network, with defined leadership roles and senior stakeholder buy-in, that empowers a larger group down to local levels; additional focus and attention on building an allies programme; targeted initiatives, such as Sky Sports’ support for the Rainbow Laces campaign; and the implementation of values that meet employee and customer needs, aligning with WEI objectives. Throughout the year, Sky collaborated with Stonewall on various aspects of its overall LGBT inclusion strategy, with the work set against a backdrop of broader diversity and intersectionality goals.
